Remembering – Teresa Neate
The Aftershock is inspired by Teresa Neate and every other brave patient faced with cancer.
On September 19th, 2016 Teresa Neate passed away from a high mortality rate cancer (Medullary Carcinoma of the Thyroid – MTC) at the age of 59.
Teresa’s cancer originated in her thyroid and spread to her spine. After a positive six months, Teresa started to lose feeling in her legs one night at home and was rushed into surgery. By this stage, she was completely paralysed from the waist down.
She had a vertebra removed from her spine and spent an agonising 10 weeks in hospital and rehabilitation. Through determination and courage, Teresa remarkably walked out of the hospital. Unfortunately, the cancer on her spine returned and Teresa returned to the hospital in April 2016. Heartbreakingly, she did not come home.
Her inspiring story led to the creation of The Aftershock, with the aim of increasing funding for and awareness of for these devastating cancers.
